Lead Mentor

Matthys Van Bylandt

Former SFU player · North Vancouver

A North Vancouver pathway from Handsworth and 3D Basketball to NCAA basketball at Simon Fraser University.

Matthys developed through Handsworth Secondary and 3D Basketball Academy in North Vancouver before joining Simon Fraser University’s NCAA Division II program. A multi-sport athlete growing up, he started for Handsworth’s senior varsity team in Grade 10 and helped the school finish fourth at the 2020 provincial championships.

In 2024–25, he started all 28 games for SFU, averaging 7.6 points and 5.2 rebounds. As a 6-foot-5 forward, his game has involved playing across positions, defending the full court and finishing above the rim.

At Axis, Matthys helps players give their individual work direction: build consistent habits, understand their role and prepare for the next step around school and team commitments. He brings a practical perspective on the transition from an ambitious high-school player to a college athlete.
